What do you need to know about free software?
As a sucker for cool mounts, immediately after it was released earlier today I logged on and bought the Elk mount using some saved up ESO Plus crown currency.
When you're stationary atop the Eerie Elk of Dread and press the space bar (or whatever is jump on your platform of choice) then the Elk will go up on its hind legs and belt out a high-pitched ethereal squealing sound. It's a bit like a synthesizer crying. And it's awesome.
When the Elk runs it leaves behind a faint glow that quickly dissipates in the air and the antlers are perfectly positioned so your character's head sits right between them as you gallop in third person.
Elder Scrolls Online is an MMO that lets you relish the small details and great premium mounts like the Eerie Elk of Dread are a fine example of that. Both the new Elk mount and Ghost Housecat non-combat pet are available only for a limited time and will disappear from the crown store just as quickly as they appeared in 5 days on June 4, the same day that both Update 22 and the new Elsweyr chapter release.

Today Zenimax Online updated the crown store in Elder Scrolls Online with two limited-time microtransaction only items. There's now a new Ghostly Housecat non-combat pet and the Eerie Elk of Dread mount. You can see the mount pictured above and it really has a strong patronus vibe like the animal spirits seen in the Harry Potter films from casting an Expecto Patronum spell.
The Ghostly Housecat costs 1,000 crowns or about $10 of in-game currency and is described as follows:
According to Nibenese legend, a house where its owner was murdered will by haunted by the shade of their cat, sent from beyond by Lord Hollowjack to torment the killer with eternal shame and guilt.
Whereas the Eerie Elk of Dread mount costs 3,000 crowns, or about $30 of in-game currency and is described as follows:
Is this ghostly Elk an antlered mount from the spirit world, or is it a sending from Lord Hircine's Oblivion plane of the Hunting Grounds? It seems solid enough, and doesn't disappear in broad daylight, so it must be more than just a haunt!

Mounts are used as a method of transportation and storage in the Elder Scrolls Online. The Elder Scrolls Online features a variety of horses with different pricing and upgrade options accessible from Stables.
Limited edition mounts can also be purchased from the crown store.
Buying and activating a Mount
You must visit a Stable and talk to the NPC in charge. In the dialogue, you will see an option to purchase a mount for varying amounts of gold. You can purchase as many mounts as you want, but you can only have one active mount at a time and must return to the Stablemaster to change your active mount. Summon your mount using the key or pressing the touchpad on your PS4 controller. You can also rename your mounts via the Stable.
Mount Attributes
Every 20 hours, you may increase one 'Riding Skill' for a cost of 250 gold.

Upgrades & Riding Skills
With Patch 6, feeds are now 'Riding Skills'
Mounts can be upgraded by visiting a Stable and selecting the Feed option, for a total of 50 times. Feeding will upgrade your mount's speed, stamina and carrying capacity, as well as change its appearance. The rules of feeding are:
Discontinued: This information is left here for curiosity purposes.
Mounts are a method of travel in The Elder Scrolls Online.[1] There are ten species of mounts: bears, camels, Dwarven spiders, elk, guar, horses, kagouti, nix-oxen, senche, and wolves. Most of these species have several varieties.
Stats and progressionEdit
Mounts have stats (Speed, Stamina, Carrying Capacity) which may be increased by upgrading at a stablemaster every 20 hours, causing a gain in level for each of the three skills. These gains are permanent and cumulative. The riding skill can be fully upgraded to 60% speed, 60 stamina, and 60 carrying capacity. Crown-bought mounts are purely cosmetic and do not have any advantage over mounts purchased with gold. All mounts start with the same stats regardless of choice.
Each upgrade level costs 250 . Which amounts to 45,000 spent on feedings and at minimum 3,600 hours spent for a fully upgraded mount.
A mount's three stats determine the following:
AcquisitionEdit
Mounts may be bought at any level for various prices from stablemasters in major cities throughout Tamriel and in the Crown Store. The cheapest gold-bought mount costs 10,000 , and the cheapest Crown-bought mount is 900 . There are no level restrictions on purchasing a mount meaning that players may ride one at any level. Players may have multiple mounts, although they can only have one with them at a time. You can change your primary mount at any time in the Collections menu. The appearance of a mount is determined by both the species of mount and the level of the three riding skills.[2]

The running joke from my girlfriend when I am playing ESO is that I am feeding my horse. At one point, I was feeding horses on 7 toons. Haha. It takes about 6 months to fully level a mount if you do it every day. You can also do it via the crown store. If you have any desire to play alts, you could start now. I would honestly split between speed and stamina at the beginning until you have about 20 into each (or maybe 2:1 speed to stamina). Then max out speed, followed by stamina, followed by bags (there are other ways to get bag space). Speed is great and all but without stamina, you will get knocked off your horse by just about anything. If you make an alt, you could start with bag space to increase your inventory a bit.
^^^^ +1 to this. I have several low level alts with high riding skills. When I get around to them, they will be Cyrodiil ready. In the meantime, they make good cheap mules at a cost of only 250g. I usually alternate between bags and speed, and do stamina last, as opposed to Bearclaw, but nothing wrong with his argument. Comments are closed.
